The Basque Parliament has recently approved the Energy Transition and Climate Change Law, with the aim of achieving climate neutrality and increasing the territory’s resilience to climate change by 2050. The new regulation includes the challenge of taking advantage of the opportunities of the energy transition process to boost competitiveness through a transformation of the Basque industry<\/strong> based on technological and industrial development and its decarbonization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The law aims to achieve a 45% reduction in emissions in 2030<\/strong> compared to 2005, saving in final energy consumption<\/strong> must be at least 12% by 2030 and 37% by 2050<\/strong>, based on the data for 2021. Another important point is the participation in renewable energies in final energy consumption<\/strong> must be at least 32% in the year 2030<\/strong>. It is, in addition, an ambitious law as it includes the commitment to make the necessary efforts. to advance the goal of climate neutrality in the year 2045<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reduce consumption and increase energy efficiency<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Energy Transition and Climate Change Law is aligned with existing European regulations on this matter<\/strong>,<\/a> and plans to become the main tool to combat global warming and evolve towards a new energy model<\/strong>, a model free of CO2 emissions and based on the renewable energy. It contemplates a sustainable, green Euskadi, respectful of the environment and committed to its social, environmental and technological-industrial development. The law seeks to increase the energy autonomy<\/strong> of the Basque Autonomous Community to better navigate the vagaries of geopolitics, reduce consumption and increase energy efficiency, while promoting an energy system based on indigenous and renewable energy sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding climate change, the law calls for more ambitious measures to be taken in all sectors and at all scales to guarantee a sustainable and liveable future. In mitigating climate change, there will be a reduction in emissions, the generation and consumption of renewable energy and progress in the commitment to energy efficiency<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The law also contemplates other sectoral and territorial policies that will contribute to climate neutrality, such as emissions reduction plans<\/strong>, the promotion of the circular economy and the decarbonization of industrial processes<\/strong>, and the optimization of carbon sinks to increase and maintain their capacity. carbon absorption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opportunity for the Basque industry<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In this way, it is intended that the energy transition represents a great opportunity for the Basque industry, with the idea of \u200b\u200bbecoming \u201ca pole of knowledge and reference for technological and industrial development in the energy sector in areas such as electrical networks, hydrogen, renewable technologies such as wind, photovoltaic, or marine renewables as a whole, electric mobility, energy storage.” The energy and climate perspective will also be reflected in the public budgets of the Basque Government, with the commitment to allocate to this type of initiatives 2.5% of them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

OBJECTIVES OF THE ENERGY TRANSITION AND CLIMATE CHANGE LAW:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
